KESGRAVE
TENNIS CLUB
NEWSLETTER
– MAY 2008
New Membership Year
Welcome all
members to a further year of tennis with your club.
This year we
have introduced shoe tags again which should be laced in to your shoe. These
make it easy to identify you as a member who has paid their subscription. If you don’t wear it please be sure that you
carry your membership card when you are at the club. We will also have a full membership list in
the clubhouse that can be referred to which will be updated monthly.
Please remember
that a guest fee applies to people who wish to play as guests of members. Hire of the courts is also available to
non-members at the advertised costs.

Sunday Club Sessions – Starting 1
June
We will again
be running Sunday afternoon club sessions this year throughout the summer from
2-4pm.
These will be
more flexible than Wednesday nights, so we anticipate both doubles and singles
play will be possible depending on numbers.
Instead of playing the usual seven games, we will play full sets to give
a different flavour to the sessions and it’s good practice for those who play
league matches.
These sessions
will start on Sunday 1 June and run throughout the summer, probably until the
end of September. A Committee member (or other volunteer) will be asked to open
up and get the balls out. A volunteer
list will go up in the clubhouse shortly if you are willing to help organise
these sessions.
Singles Box League
We are going to
try and set up a singles box league in the summer open to both men and women.
These will be round-robin matches and we can have a couple of divisions if
there is sufficient interest. The groups
will probably be no more than 4 or 5 players and you will need to play all your
opponents within a given timescale – probably a few weeks.
As a starter,
please add your name to the list in the clubhouse if you are interested.
Play Tennis Days
These will be
held on 12 and 13 July in the afternoons between 2pm and 4.30pm. These sessions are designed to try and
encourage non-members to join the club and we will be advertising the event
locally. Courts are not likely to be
available to members between these times.
We will be
targeting women specifically for the first of these days as we seem to have
more difficulty in attracting new female members! Also our league teams suffer from a shortage
of female players.

Facilities
A number of
members commented about the round light outside the entrance to the Kesgrave
Sports Hall opposite court 4. When
receiving serve facing the light, there was a problem with losing sight of the
ball in the light. We are pleased to
report that the KWMCC have painted the lampshade to remove the glare, and we
understand this has now remedied the situation.
Please let any committee member know if you have any comments about the
facilities.
