SPARK is a registered charity and is established to provide and improve opportunities for Sport, Recreation and other leisure time occupation for the benefit of the inhabitants of Kesgrave and surrounding area in the interests of social welfare and in order to improve the quality of life of its inhabitants.
SPARK is made up of representatives from all parts of the local community. From Football and Bowls clubs to CAIK (Conservation Awareness In Kesgrave), from The Scouts and Guides to The Royal British Legion.
So far most of our efforts have been put into raising funds. The 2nd Stop charity shop next to Tesco's in Kesgrave has been extremely successful in raising cash due to the hard work of a few volunteers. We have also had sponsored abseils down Ipswich Maternity Hospital, a charity Fashion Show and a Golf Day. Other events are always being planned but more are always needed to allow us to carry out our purpose of helping sports and social groups in our town.
Our first major project is to join in partnership with Martlesham Community Council to build a multipurpose sports hall. This is a long term project and will cost in excess of £3.6 Million.
We also help with the facilities at the new Millennium Sports Ground at the eastern end of Longstrops.
We also consider grants for projects costing just tens of pounds or more in order to help both the young and old in Kesgrave.
We also monitor progress of projects being carried out by other organisations that are of interest. Current projects of interest are:
The Town Council has identified a shortage of 26 acres of sports space in Kesgrave following the supplementary planning guidance provided recently by Suffolk Coastal District Council. The Town Council are approaching local land owners to see if any land could be donated or acquired.
The Kesgrave Community Centre are progressing two schemes. The first to provide two additional tennis courts. The second to look at providing an all weather playing surface.
SPARK needs your help! If you care about leisure activities in your town why not get involved? Help with sponsored events, sponsor someone or just visit the 2nd Stop charity shop - every little helps!
