G'day, Kesgrave
A greeting from Oz. My name is Al McCartan and I'm an ex-Kesgrave res.

I lived in Edmnonton Road from 1948-1952 before sailing to Australia. I'm an ex- Kesgrave Area School - both junior and enior - student; ex-organ pumper for Mr Gilbert at All Saints' and served as both cub and scout for 1st Kesgrave. I was lucky enough to be involved with the building of the Scout Hall (circa 1951) at the rear end of the Parish Hall - near the then Bluebell Wood.
I have just retired as a journalist and broadcaster - although I still broadcast and still look upon my days in Kesgrave and Ipswich as some of my happiest.

Some old school friends are here in Oz - Peter Stovold, whose folks looked after the Black Tiles Restaurant on Woodbridge Rd, Pete's in Queensland and the Hutchinson sisters, Stella, Sonia and Sylvia from Cambridge Rd (I think) are in WA.

I notice that the deputy ed of your newsheet is Don Whinney; I was at School with John Whinney - any relation?

I'd love to keep up with the goss of what's hapening in Kesgrave - glad I foundya
Al

Does this site have forums fro discussion? Can't find them, though they have been mentioned.

Admin reply: There is no longer a forum. There was one (for the last 8 years or so) but no one really used it and I decided to remove it.

I am slowly trying to tidy up and improve the site so old references to the forum should disappear.

Although I have lived in Kesgrave for 4 years, I have only just found this website. I was looking for Council run fitness schemes for the not so fit!! in particular the over 60's. Unfortunately, there is nothing here but I have enjoyed visiting the site. Easy navigation - good luck with more interest and contributions. Patsy

You need to watch your online Forum as there are some very strange websites attached to it!! Having run one of these in the past you will find that you have to monitor it very closely.

Like the Parish Walks (or runs as I may make them).

Any way of making the maps clickable to bring them up full size?

Admin reply: Unfortunately as part of creating these walks we had to pay a copyright fee to the Ordanance Survey to print them based on the number of copies printed. If we published them on the website in full size then we would again have to pay a copyright fee. We felt that this wasn't good value for money. To obtain a printed copy you need to visit the Town Council or Penzance Road Post Office. They should still have copies at around £2.00 a pack.

Brilliant Site, I really hope it takes off.

I've updated the link on the CC site and will publicise it as much as I can.

Keep up the good work.

I just wanted to publicly congratulate the admin on this wonderful website. It's very easy to use, looks great and is very informative. I know how much time and trouble has gone into its creation, entirely on a voluntary basis, so a big thank you from one of Kesgrave's residents.

EXCELLENT WEBSITE - It's great that someone should take the time and trouble to put such a nice website together for the people of Kesgrave. Please keep up the great work in giving us residents an informed eye on local issues and events. Best wishes, Gavin
