| Some 500 parishioners gathered at Kesgrave yesterday to witness the opening of the War Memorial Community Centre. Mr. S. C. Reeve, Chairman of the Parish Council, called upon Mr. W. O . Jolly to unlock the memorial lynch gate, of which he was a donor, and simultaneoulsy the memorial tablets to 9 who gave their lives was unveiled by the 1st Kesgrave Scout Troop. The service was conducted by the Vicar (the Rev. Butler Smith), and an address was given by the Rev. J. Melhuish, C.F (d.A.G.G., headquarters of the East Anglian District. The "Last Post" and "Reveille" were sounded by Sergt. White, of the 4th Battalion Suffolk Regiment. Woodbridge Excelsior Band were present under the conductorship of Mr. S. Smith. and various organisations attended with banners and standards. Wreaths were placed at the war memorial. Mr. Reeve said that although five years had passed since the war ended, it did not mean that they had been forgotten the horror of those war days or those brave lads and men of the Parish who gave their lives. Many faithful workers in the village had laboured untiringly to secure this fitting and noble memorial to the fallen.
